Privacy Information
Because the SMSs will always be sent through The Gateway, no participant knows the mobile number of the other and the deadSwap Gateway does not retain the mobile numbers of participants not currently active. This makes deadSwap quite private to participate in. However, the following practices will increase privacy even further:
Keep The Gateway Number Secret
In order to have a fully clandestine deadSwap network, The Gateway SMS number shouldn't be published anywhere. We post the number of the open networks because these serve as as networks for entertainment and training and are not fully clandestine. The number of a clandestine network should be spread by word of mouth and other covert means only.
Use Anonymous SIMs
Avoid using a SIM with an official contract to participate. Using a pre-paid SIM card acquired anonymously is best for participating in deadSwap, especially for the SIM used by The Gateway.
Leave The Drop Somewhere For The Rabbit Instead Of Delivering It In Person
If you leave The Drop somewhere instead of delivering it in person, the rabbit can get it themselves. This way, neither the rabbit nor the agent knows who they are sharing with. Beyond being more fun and more in the spirit of the system, it makes the network far more private. Make sure that The Drop is safe where you have left it and that the rabbit can easily find it, of course.
